After wrapping up touring in support of 2018’s The Wilder Beyond, Canadian indie pop quartet Hillsburn spent much of 2019 workshopping songs for a new album. That process led to an exchange of demos and eventual collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, Mother Mother). Recording in Vancouver as the pandemic set in in March 2020, Hillsburn drew on Redekopp’s extensive experience to craft Slipping Away, their most refined effort to date. The boisterous gang vocals and hook-heavy choruses that are signatures of their earlier work remain intact here, but the stylistic focus is a little tighter, the musical contrasts slightly more subdued.
Slipping Away is set for release on May 28, 2021.

“Aarntzen constructs intellectually dense, grand-idea stories set outside, in the past, novelistic in detail, smatters pop-culture references across them … then locks them into your brain forever with the perfect repeated (and repeatable) line….”
– Tara Thorne [The Coast]
“If you’re looking for a band that bleeds every last drop of themselves into their work, you’ve found them in Hillsburn.”
– Kerry Martin [CBC]
